Grinding resins with the CEMBREAK lump breaker

Solidified resin is delivered in drums about 500 mm in diameter and 800 mm high. The drum contains a block of material with the above dimensions. The task is to reduce this block into granulate between 0 - 8 mm in size, in order to reduce the batch time of the downstream dispersing process. Finding a technically feasible and financially viable solution for this extreme application required preliminary and main trials.

These trials were performed in a CEMBREAK grinding processor supplied by TELSCHIG Verfahrenstechnik GmbH. The results of these trials showed that the CEMBREAK model ZP-750-TD2-S-8-A-W is suitable for this application.

The process was configured in two size reduction stages. The material was first crushed and ground in a jaw crusher to a particle size of about 200 x 150 x 100 mm. Fine grinding to a particle size of 0 - 8 mm was then performed in the CEMBREAK grinding processor mentioned above.

The throughput is about 2,000 kg/h. Special tools were designed for the application, mounted differently on the two shafts. The Atex specification permitted a maximum speed of 1 m/second. The grinding shafts were fitted with individual drives with different ratings. The two shafts turn at different speeds.

This concept was developed in close operator with the plant operator to achieve the required result. The design of the CEMBREAK had to take account of about 30 parameters to find the right solution for this complex task. This innovative solution required many years of experience and fundamental competence in solids and bulk materials size reduction technology.
